How do I write blog posts?

A word of caution: This is a selfish post. If you’re looking to find something of value then don’t read any further. Though, if you are an accomplished blogger or writer of any sorts, I’d request you to read onwards.

I am as new to writing blogs as most rich millennials are to cryptocurrencies. We both find what we see attractive but we haven’t got a clue how it works. Consider this Medium post as my formal request, to whoever comes across it, to guide me through the rough waters of ‘starting a blog for a startup’ in 2021.

I have never been much of a writer but have been an avid reader of articles, knowledge bases, books, and some blogs. The only formal writing I ever did was as a part of my post-graduation. The final thesis was probably the longest single piece of anything I have ever written.

A bit of background

Two years since I got the postgraduate degree and after working as a product marketing manager (where I was not expected to write), I am again at a point in my life where I must get back to formal writing. This time, I’ll have to write a blog as a part of my company — Ariso’s (food transparency and personal nutrition platform) go-to-market strategy.

Now, this would require way more skill, commitment and consistency than what I currently possess. I am all in to work on the latter two aspects if I get the resources to acquire the former.

Why and what kind of a blog?

Our vision for Ariso is of the platform that gives information and knowledge on food, health and nutrition in the most simple and understandable language and offers expert recommendations/words of caution on every food based on each of our user’s needs and preferences.

The blog’s internal purpose is to accumulate a large group of users who can be potential early users/ adopters of our platform when it's up and running in the latter half of 2021. The purpose of the blog itself, for readers, is to impart knowledge, information and expert opinions on nutrition, health, and diet while focusing on food and its ability to manage a health condition/ disease or its ability to help a person reach his or her health/fitness/mental goals.

The theme of the blog

Each blog post will communicate information and knowledge in the easiest possible language with actionable insights following the knowledge adding material value to the lives of readers and their families. Each blog post will not exceed five minutes of reading time discouraging vague and large topics and encouraging small and precise topics for each post.

My predicament

As a business professional, I know nothing about nutrition and the impact of food on nutrition and not even partially close to what a nutritionist in my team will know. But because this blog is for the layman, it’s just better if a layman writes and explains the elaborate constructs of food and nutrition in words and sentences which are much more reader-friendly than words and sentences of an expert nutritionist, right?

So, understand my situation — I know nothing about blogging and I am about to write about stuff that I know nothing about. What about this seems to be a good decision? NOTHING. Yes, I am aware that a rational mind would immediately write off the decision as irrational and move on but somehow it is a decision that makes sense. I’ll have to learn ‘how to write blogs extensively’ and write factually correct content as I get guided by expert nutritionists around me.

Seeking help

To successfully get out of the predicament I mentioned above, I am seeking your help. Firstly, please give me feedback on this piece of writing and secondly, I would be extremely grateful if you could share any resources or practical advice you have on writing successful blogs for businesses.

Cheers!
